About This Site

Dear Visitors:

Governor Spitzer created the Governor's Smart Growth Cabinet by Executive Order in December 2007. The Cabinet consists of representatives from all state agencies that affect land use. The Department of State's Division of Local Government works with the state agencies and local governments to carry out the Governor's vision for Smart Growth.

The Smart Growth Clearinghouse Web Site was created to connect New Yorkers with state agency services that promote Smart Growth and other sources of information on Smart Growth. The Clearinghouse provides and easy-to-use directory of relevant state agencies, with brief descriptions of their services and links to appropriate agency web site pages.

The Web Site is generally organized around eight Smart Growth principles (see icons at the top of this page and the home page) and sorted by four sub-categories: Grant and Financial Information; Technical Assistance (training publication, events and other information); Data and Regional Inventories; and Success Stories. These sub-categories are then organized by several topical areas, such as transportation, business, energy, environment, planning and zoning.

Please forward comments and suggestions on this web site to the Smart Growth Clearinghouse Coordinator: QC@dos.state.ny.us.
